NETTLE -
EFFECT ON HAIR & SCALP

Nettle as an active ingredient in cosmetics?

The first thought of stinging nettles is often associated with less positive memories, as the plant can cause painful blisters on the skin. However, it is no secret that the properties and effects of stinging nettle have many benefits. In this article, you can find out why stinging nettle is a particularly valuable active ingredient for hair care.

What properties do nettles have?

Nettle is a proven ingredient in hair care that is particularly known for its sebum-regulating properties. In hair tonics and shampoos, it works directly on the scalp and ensures a healthy balance of oil and moisture. Nettle is a plant that is rich in vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals.

What effect do nettles have?

The effect of nettle lies primarily in its sebum-regulating properties. By reducing excessive sebum production on the scalp, nettle can help control oily hair and keep hair looking fresh and clean for longer. This makes it particularly suitable for people with oily scalps or quickly greasy hair. It has a soothing effect on the scalp and helps to reduce irritation. This is particularly beneficial for people with sensitive scalps.

How are nettles extracted?

We need to take a closer look at the two products in the MY NETTLE range. In our anti-grease shampoo, nettle stems and leaves are extracted in a mixture of glycerine and water, which gently extracts the valuable ingredients. The formulation of our scalp tonic already consists largely of alcohol. We therefore use an alcoholic extract of stinging nettle here. This means that alcohol is used instead of the glycerine-water mixture to extract the valuable ingredients of the nettle.

Further questions about the active ingredient nettle

Even if contact with a stinging nettle can bring back painful memories, it is clear from the thought of nettle tea that nettles are safe for use in cosmetics. What’s more, in my nettle products we only use an extract that no longer contains the sensitive stinging hairs of the nettle.

As stinging nettle has a sebum-regulating function, the skin and scalp may also feel a little drier after use. MY NETTLE products are therefore particularly suitable for people who tend to have oily hair and a greasy scalp.
