Aloe vera is a highly valued ingredient in moisturizers as it is known for its excellent moisturizing and soothing properties. In this article, we look at how aloe vera works in moisturizers, how it is extracted and whether it is safe.
Aloe vera gel, which is extracted from the leaves of the aloe vera plant, is rich in valuable ingredients that are of great importance for skin care. The outer leaves of the plant are harvested by hand and after peeling, the aloe vera gel is squeezed out of the inner leaf tissue. This aloe vera gel consists largely of water, but contains around 75 ingredients as described. The most important component is a sugar called aloverose or acemannan.
Aloe vera is a highly effective moisturizer. The sugars it contains help to bind moisture in the skin. Aloe vera is quickly absorbed by the skin and leaves it feeling fresh and non-greasy. This makes it particularly suitable for moisturizers that are intended for daily use and under make-up. In addition to its moisturizing properties, it is also described as having an anti-inflammatory effect.
In order for aloe vera to develop its nourishing effect optimally, a lot of aloe must be used. As the specialist group for cosmetics of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) writes in its study on aloe vera, formulations with less than 10 % aloe vera are hardly suitable for the effects mentioned. We have therefore decided to double this recommendation for our MY ALOE VERA range and use 20 % aloe vera – for maximally nourished and moisturized skin.
Aloe vera is considered an extremely safe and well-tolerated ingredient.
It is very well tolerated by all skin types.
Thanks to its moisturizing properties, aloe vera is particularly suitable for dry and sensitive skin. You may have come across aloe vera in after sun products, for example. In these products, aloe vera moisturizes and soothes skin that has been stressed by the sun. Aloe vera is therefore also suitable for stressed skin.
